Sharon Costello will be teaching two classes this fall at the Northeast Fiber Arts Center in Williston, VT. :

Advanced Figurative Needle Felting: Sculpting Young & Old. Friday Nov 11 (Veteran’s Day), 10 – 4. Sharon will guide advanced needle felters thru the techniques to achieve different facial expressions and facial types. Students will sculpt the head of a young child and the head of a very old person. They will learn how old faces differ from others and how to achieve realistic wrinkles and facial expressions. Students will also sculpt hands, learning how to create realistic articulated fingers.

Nature in Felt: Texture, Color and Form. Sat & Sun Nov 12 & 13, 10 – 4. Learn to look at close-up forms in nature with a new “eye”…distilling the essence of photographic images and translating them into either two or three dimensional felt “studies”. In the process, learn a range of methods for creating varied surface and textural effects as well as sculptural forms in felt.

Seamless Short Sleeve/Vest Class

Linda Veilleux will teach a 3 day Seamless Short Sleeve/Vest Class September 2-4 (arrive on Sept. 1), 2011. This is an annual French/English speaking session with a translator. You will explore design and proper fit for your garment. The class will be held at Linda’s studio in Charlotte, Vermont. Shirdak and rope making

At our last guild meeting which took place in NJ, the local hostesses Piroska and Gail held a workshop on Shirdaks. Piroska filled us in on the details of history, how to make, and some great videos. I think the rope making machine was a favorite.

One of the things the guild members do is create art cards to trade at the meetings. Everyone makes a felted art card and they go into a container, then everyone picks one out.
